The Rook & Roll Chess club will begin meeting Monday October 9th, 2023 and will continue to meet each Monday until December 18th, 2023. Meetings will be held immediately after school until 5:00 and will be under the direction of Mr. Petersen. The meetings will be held in Mr. Petersen’s room (G111) and
parents can pick up at 5:00 pm or earlier on the North side (bus parking lot) just outside entrance #5.
Meetings will begin with a short lesson guided by Mr. Petersen. After the lesson, the remaining time will be dedicated to play. There will be a lot of fun and a lot of learning! Students will earn points by defeating more advanced students and leader boards will be maintained to recognize individual talent. The season will culminate with an in-house tournament and awards.
The club is open to any 7th or 8th grade student in good academic standing. No prior experience is necessary. Membership will be capped at 40 students… the first 40 to apply. The $5 fee will help offset the cost of chess sets, and clocks for club use. Students should come to club ready to focus on chess. Poor behavior will result in expulsion from the club without refund. To apply for Rook & Roll membership, complete the following, including parent signature and return this application with a $5 check made out to “F.J.H.” Please include the student's name in the memo section and give the check to Mr. Petersen in room g111.
